Your Suspicions Confirmed: Cat People Are More Likely to Be Single Than Dog People

catYou might have assumed it was true, but Facebook has dug into those suspicions and confirmed that cat people are more likely to be single than dog people. The cliché has been given credence, as Facebook dug into user habits in the United States to look at some of the differences between the two groups.

Based on their relationship status on Facebook, the site found that 30 percent of cat people are single and just 24 percent of dog people identify as single. However, they discovered that cat people aren’t any more likely to be single based on age or gender. All cat people are created equal.

In the study, they used “aggregate, de-identified data from a sample of about 160,000 people in the United States who shared photos of cats or dogs (or both) on Facebook.” From that data, they began to suss out the differences between the two groups. Outside of relationship status, they also found that dog people average 26 more friends on Facebook than cat people, further confirming stereotypes about pet owners.
